Heat spreader
Look at the metal lid on the top face. The cooler presses against this surface through a layer of thermal paste, carrying heat away from the silicon.
Socket contacts
Turn the package over. Flat contact pads meet the spring contacts in the motherboard’s AM5 socket. The alignment keys guide installation.
L3 cache
Beneath the lid, 96 MB of L3 cache keeps frequently used data near the cores. A cache hit can save a trip to the DDR5 modules. This internal structure is described in the guide.
